Emirates Derby Day Wrap up

Derby day is arguable one of the most glamorous and prestigious race days of the Spring Racing Carnival. I am happy to bring you all the details from inside the Emirates marquee as the #EmiratesInsider.

The buzz inside the Emirates marquee was electric, as guests experienced the luxury and refinement of Emirates first class service. The fashion was impeccable yesterday and I was lucky enough to have a chat with two of Emirates special guests, Stephen Jones and Millie Macintosh.

Stephen Jones is a leading English milliner creating headwear for the Royal family, catwalk designers like Dior and a string of celebrities from Beyoncé to Rihanna. The Emirates marquee is also featuring a number of Stephen's hats throughout the week and they are to die for!

I sat down later with British model, designer and fashion influencer Millie Mackintosh, to talk about the fashion trends at Flemington and Royal Ascot and how she chose her stunning Camilla and Marc outfit for the day.

When choosing your outfit what did you pick first? Your shoes, Dress or Headwear?
Dress, then headwear, shoes and bag last. For something like the races, I think the headwear is important, but I felt like I wanted to wear the dress that I wanted to wear and then I found headwear that went with it

What is your favourite fashion trend at this year's carnival?
I mean obviously today is all about monochrome, but I love monochrome and have a lot of monochrome in my wardrobe, and I feel like its great having a monochrome race day, because when people are shopping for their race day look they are shopping for something they can wear again. I love black and white it is so chic, and you can't go that wrong with it as it all goes together. Black goes with black, white goes with white and black and white goes together.

What is the biggest fashion faux pas you have ever committed at the races?
The only big faux pas that I have committed at the races is worn some very
uncomfortable shoes, I know its sound weird but I haven't worn anything too awful to the races, but I did wear some beautiful shoes that just killed my feet and I guess it's not the type of event that you can take your shoes off. I was doing a lot of interviews where I had to move about so I wasn't just in one place, and walking on grass and grave, I was hobbling in pain. So I think make sure your shoes aren't too tight.

Who is your fashion inspiration/idol?
I think that Jen Hawkins always looks really good at the races; she looks beautiful, feminine, sexy and elegant.

Sore feet are never fun, what kind of preparation do you do to ensure you can wear heels all day?

So test the heels before, make sure you don't wear shoes that are too small and pack blister blasters.
If you could invite anyone to an English tea party who would it be and why?
OH, Stephen. If I had an English tea party I'd invite Stephen Jones because he has so many fascinating stories and he is just such an amazing character, and I feel like he would bring a lot to an English tea party.
If you met the Queen at the races what would you say to her?
I would say that I love her style and that I love her corgis. I would probably just chat to her about dogs
If you had to take the day off work for the races, what would be the best excuse you would tell your boss?
Oh that is hard. You can't really pull a sickie because someone would see a picture of you out at the races. I would say that I had a really important client that I had to meet at the races and that I would explain that I had to go there to benefit the business.

After I enjoyed a cocktail out on the English garden balcony watching a race and visited the Sanctuary for a make up and hair touch up I picked my best-dressed outfit in the Emirates marquee.
The entire marquee oozed sophistication and glamour, and it was very hard to choose my best dressed as all the guests looked chic in their black and white outfits.
So below are just a few ladies that really stood out to me

So that is Derby Day over for another year, looking forward to Tuesday Melbourne cup day where the Emirates Marquee will once again host glamour guests and what is sure to be another amazing Race Day. See you then
